This participative and interactive one-day workshop is for anyone who wants to develop their communication skills for use in work, business, and life in general.

The emphasis will be on developing your own style of communication in a natural and confident manner, using your strengths, and seeking to solve problems you are encountering. We will draw on fun methods from the world of performance, improvisation and comedy, with feedback from the peer group and the facilitator.

Advance questionnaires will enable delegates to identify issues which they'd like to address in a hands-on way, in the session.

Here are some of the topics which we are likely to draw in a practical way, as appropriate for the group of participants:

What constitutes 'good communication' and what are it's components?:

Your natural style of communication: developing an approach that suits you and uses your strengths and instincts

The voice:
- tone
- expressiveness
- pace, speed and timing
- using your natural optimal range
- breathing support for the voice
- variety and variation for different purposes

Physical aspects:
- body language and posture
- non-verbal communication
- eye contact

Other important factors:
- clarity of content and meaning
- building rapport, making impact and exerting influence
- choice of words and vocabulary, diction, jargon, padding
- active listening and responding
- using questioning to enhance understanding
- appropriate, effective and spontaneous humour
- effect of the setting and environment

Practising particular real-life communication situations:
- one-to-one communication
- group communication

Communication problems and difficulties:
- causes of miscommunication such as subjective perceptions or assumptions
- challenging communication situations
- communicating with difficult situations
- appreciating different perspectives and points of view
- overcoming nerves and tension
- 'how not to do it' exercises

Concluding activity:
- devising a personal plan of action to address issues identified and use solutions discovered in the session
